This masterpiece by Paul Cézanne from 1896 shows a castle by a mountain lake, Lac d’Annecy, in the French Alps near Switzerland. This beautiful landscape from the era of impressionism is a successful composition of color, space and light. I was able to reduce this complicated oil painting for this cross stitch pattern to only 33 colors and a size of 250 x 200 stitches without losing any appreciable quality. I decided not to smooth the pattern, otherwise a lot of atmosphere would have been lost. This makes the motif a little more difficult to embroider – but the extra effort is definitely worth it.
