The small village of Étretat is located on the beautiful coast in the north of France. The famous French painter Claude Monet was vacationing in this village in 1885 and discovered this beautiful motif not far away while strolling on the beach. The coast is characterized by rough winds, cold sand and rugged rocks. This is how his beautiful oil painting was created. To compose a feasible cross-stitch motif from it was a very difficult project. The connection between the blue and gray tones was too often disturbed by bright pixels. But in the end I managed to use this cross-stitch chart with 45 different colors. The number of colors is relatively high for my motifs, but the patterns could be smoothed, which results in significantly more coherent areas. Another important feature: You can also leave out the sky completely. The size is fixed at 250 x 200 stitches. With this size, the workload is still manageable, but the simplification of the motif is not at the expense of its breathtaking beauty. This halves the workload and the cliffs come out even more clearly. Personally, I like the present variant with the sky better.
